ABOUT DR. ELLENBOGEN

While at the University of Florida, Richard Ellenbogen excelled in both art and pre-med courses. He went on to graduate from the
University of Miami Medical School in 1968. He then completed general surgery training in New York City. To satisfy an interest in plastic surgical correction of birth defects, Dr. Ellenbogen traveled to The Hague, Netherlands, where he served a fellowship at the Red Cross Hospital.
When he returned to the United States, Dr. Ellenbogen served a fellowship in hand surgery at the prestigious Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City. During his training in New York, he
worked as an assistant police surgeon in the South Bronx. Dr. Ellenbogen competed his residency at the State University of New York in Plastic, Maxillofacial and Reconstructive Surgery. This
portrait artist-turned surgeon found his medium and went on to become on of LA's top plastic surgeons.
Dr. Ellenbogen moved to Los Angeles in 1975, and in 1978 he became board certified in Plastic Surgery. His personal medical suite was designed with state of the art outpatient operating rooms and museum quality antiques, which Dr. Ellenbogen refinished himself. Since 1980, his practice has been limited to cosmetic surgery, but Dr. Ellenbogen still performs reconstructive birth defects surgery and consults on cases involving complicated reconstructive surgery. One of the most published and innovative plastic surgeons, Dr.
Ellenbogen has written textbooks and scientific journal articles on facelift, eyelid surgery, forehead lift, breathing and cosmetic nasal surgery, underarm breast enlargement, and liposuction techniques, as well as research on silicone. Many of the techniques he has helped create are used and referred to by plastic surgeons all over the world today.
A two time recipient of the American Medical Association Physicians Recognition Award, Dr. Ellenbogen is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, the American Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Society, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, and a clinical instructor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Ellenbogen keeps current by attending and lecturing at international conferences at least once each year.
In giving plastic surgery its proper prospective, he sometimes views his specialty as a way to "jumpstart people" who would benefit by having their self-image enhanced. Dr. Ellenbogen offers his patients a good heart, a sense of humor, and an artist's eye.
Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Ellenbogen is the director of a prestigious postgraduate fellowship program in advanced aesthetic surgery. Plastic surgeons from all over the world come to be taught by him. Dr. Motykie trained with Dr. Ellenbogen prior to becoming one of the first fellows invited to join his practice in almost thirty years.

PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Ellenbogen attributes his success to four factors: First...utilization of his "artist's eye" to create realism.
Secondly...keeping abreast of all procedures performed around the world, and adding those he deems meritorious to his own. Third...his
ability to form an understanding of the patient's needs and desires. And lastly...he scrupulously adheres to safety and avoidance of
complications. After observing, evaluating and qualifying a patient (both physically and emotionally), Dr. Ellenbogen tries to instill trust
so that he can come as close as possible to delivering just what the patient expects. "My word is very important to me. I never promise
what I can't deliver. I have dedicated myself to the highest standards of the Art of Plastic Surgery, but I never forget the human element. The goal of a plastic surgeon is to improve a
patient's self image, and I take that responsibility very seriously.
My staff and I try to give patients a very positive experience with as little inconvenience and discomfort as possible. We are experienced professionals, who strive to the highest standards
available."
-Richard Ellenbogen, M.D.

BREAST PROCEDURES

• Breast Augmentation
Los Angeles breast augmentation is continuously changing with numerous advancements in the procedure and the breast implants available. Beverly Hills breast augmentation patients are experiencing less time in recovery and attaining better than ever results. The surgeons at Beverly Hills Body customize every breast augmentation procedure to each individual body and patients' desires. Their state of the art Los Angeles breast augmentation facility is equipped to deliver the most satisfactory results and leave patients feeling comfortable and confident in their care.

• Breast Implants
There are 3 options:
1- Dual Plane (partially over and partially under the muscle)
Benefits: This newer style of breast augmentation places the implant partially above and partially below the muscle. This technique takes advantage of the best of both traditional styles of procedures resulting in natural, soft breasts with a full cleavage and a very low risk of rippling or capsular contracture.
2- Subglandular (over the muscle)
Benefits: This placement offers the most natural positioning and movement and has the added benefit of quick recovery time with little post-surgical discomfort. It can also sometimes give uplift to small or sagging breasts.
3- Submuscular (under the muscle)
Benefits: Submuscular implants tend to work better for women who are very thin and therefore do not have very much breast tissue to fully cover up the implant. In these types of cases, the submuscular placement can help hide the implant and may reduce the possibility of rippling or capsular contracture (hardening of the breast). Submuscular placement also offers more fullness towards the top of the breasts. This technique requires slightly longer recovery time compared with subglandular implants.

• Breast Asymmetry
Assymetric Breasts are a congenital condition in which one breast is significantly larger than the other (most breasts are assymetric naturally, however these cases are usually those with a difference of a cup size or more between the two breasts).

• Breast Reduction
Women with extremely large or sagging breasts can be both emotionally and physically uncomfortable. They may also suffer from back and neck pain, irritation under the breasts and soreness where bra straps cut into their shoulders. Some women are also self-conscious about their breast size.
• Traditional Breast Reduction ("Reduction and Lift")
This cosmetic surgery procedure reduces the size, lifts and reshapes the contour of large breasts by removing excess breast skin and tissue. It may also include reducing the size of the areola (dark skin surrounding the nipple) and repositioning the nipple and areola.

• Scarless Breast Reduction ("Reduction Only")
For women who would like to be have lighter and smaller breasts, Dr. Motykie now offers a unique liposculpting technique that reduces breast size without the uplift, therefore eliminating the scars that are usually associated with traditional breast reductions. This technique may relieve the shoulder and neck pain associated with large breasts, but is designed for women who are not as concerned about breast shape. Most patients can lose a cup size or up to one pound from each breast.

• Breasts Lift
A breast uplift is different than a breast reduction, although the technique is somewhat similar. There is no reduction in the volume of the breasts during a breast uplift (mastopexy), whereas breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) involves a reduction in breast tissue. These are only a small sampling of these types of our Beverly Hills breast lift cases.

• Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)
Gynecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek words for "women-like breasts." This condition is actually quite common. Gynecomastia affects an estimated 40 to 60 percent of men, but to varying degrees. Though certain drugs and medical problems have been linked with male breast overdevelopment, there is no known cause in the vast majority of cases. For men who feel self-conscious about their appearance, breast-reduction surgery can help. The procedure removes fat tissue from the breasts, resulting in a chest that is flatter, firmer, and better contoured.

OTHER PROCEDURES

• Blepharoplasty (Eyes)
Droopy upper eyelids and baggy lower eyelids can be improved in most cases. Wrinkles under the eyes are very difficult to correct, but crows' feet can be improved with BOTOX ®. Dr. Ellenbogen has written the eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) chapter in the prestigious textbook, Plastic Reconstructive and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is noted for his technique to correct asymmetrical eyelids. Please view the before and after photos below to see the results attained by Los Angeles eyelid surgery patients.

• Body Lift (post-bariatric)
With significant weight loss over a relatively short period of time that often comes with gastric bypass surgery, the remaining skin doesn't always retain the elastic qualities necessary to shrink back to a patient's new, smaller shape. This often leaves patients with excessive amounts of hanging skin, which can be corrected via a body lift.

• Buccal Fat Removal (cheek slimming)
Buccal fat extraction (pronounced buckle) is the procedure to remove the fat pads that augment the lower part of the cheeks. This produces a beautiful, subtle thinning of the cheeks -- it is not a drastic change. The procedure itself is fairly simple and not overly-invasive. A small incision is made inside the mouth and the the lump of fat is gently removed. There is usually some swelling for most patients afterwards -- typically 2-4 days, but every patient is different.

• Chin Implants
Aesthetically, the chin looks the most balanced when it projects as far as the lower lip. A retrusive chin often causes the corners of the mouth to turn downward and look "unhappy." The silicone rubber implant is placed through a small incision inside the mouth (no external scars). Besides the mouth posture, chin implants can improve the jowls, and the hanging tissue in the neck. It can give a man a more masculine jaw line and a woman a more aristocratic neck and jaw line.

• Cleft Lip Nose
Dr. Ellenbogen served a teaching fellowship at Chase Hospital in The Hague, Netherlands treating birth defects. He no longer operates on children but repairs the more difficult adult cleft lip nose repairs.

• Facelift
Facial aging is two processes -- sagging and deflating (loss of fat). Some Beverly Hills facelift patients may require no correction of the sagging and can be improved with only fat grafting into the areas of loss. For cases where correction of the sagging is necessary, the short incision technique is used, with an incision 1/3 to 1/2 the length of that widely practiced currently. The tightening and the filling-in with the patient's own fat are artistically balanced to create natural, youthful results.

• Facial Fat Grafting
Dr. Ellenbogen is considered by many to be the "father of fat grafting." In this procedure, the patient's own fat is extracted and then injected in the areas of the face where fat has been lost in aging. It may be more accurate to deem it facial fat restructuring, as the fat can also be used to create structures such as high cheekbones and fuller lips. Fat in certain areas will be permanent, though on some people it may need to be repeated.

• Forehead / Browlifts
Droopy forehead, angry brows, and wrinkles can be improved by lifting the forehead. The surgery is done from within the hairline, so the scar is generally imperceptible. This procedure does for the upper face what a facelift does for the lower part of the face.

• Liposuction
Beverly Hills Body has helped many Los Angeles and Beverly Hills liposuction patients achieve a more contoured and sculpted body shape. These Los Angeles cosmetic surgery specialists are well known for providing their patients with the highest degree of satisfaction and results. Please review the before and after photos as well as the information below to learn more about the benefits that have been received by our many Los Angeles liposuction patients.

Neck Lifts
Men. Liposuction for men's necks works well only for the simplest fat deposits in the younger neck. A man's skin is thicker and less elastic than a woman's, and therefore doesn't retract as well when fat is removed. Further, a man's neck muscles have frequently descended into the neck. Removal of the fat without repairing the muscles may leave "turkey gobbler" bands. A submental neck lift addresses both problems, fat and muscles, for a clean jaw line and neck. This is not to say that on some men, liposuction alone is not effective. Older men or men who have lost significant weight, however, will require a facelift.
Women. Women's necks can sometimes be rejuvenated with liposuction if the skin is still elastic enough. However, like men's necks, if the skin has been stretched out too far, a submental neck lift is necessary. This procedure will also correct the turkey gobbler band muscles.

Otoplasty (Ears)
Otoplasty is surgery designed to pin the ears closer to the head or lessen the appearance of larger than average ears. Through an incision made on the back of the ear, surgical techniques such as cartilage removal and reshaping can be performed to restore normal ear shape. This procedure can be done on one or both ears, as needed. Rhinoplasty Beverly Hills Body has perfected Los Angeles rhinoplasty surgery, helping numerous Beverly Hills rhinoplasty patients improve their profile and appearance. The information and photos below will surely convey the great amount of skill and precision that Los Angeles rhinoplasty surgeons at Beverly Hills Body use to enhance each patient.
