Sheryl New, PA-C
Sheryl has a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Anderson University, a Master of Arts in Biology from Ball State University, and a Master of Science in Biomedical Science from the Medical College of Ohio. She is a certified by The National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Indiana Academy of Physician Assistants.
Physician assistants, or PAs, are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, suture lacerations, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, and assist in surgery. Within the physician-PA relationship, physician assistants can work independently from the physician in medical decision making and provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services.
Sheryl will be working closely as a complement to Dr. Turkle by seeing post operative patients, making hospital rounds, and assisting in surgery. She will make our office more efficient due to her wide range of abilities.
Additionally, Sheryl will provide services for our aesthetics patients. She has been trained in Thermage, injecting Botox and facial fillers, and other non-surgical rejuvenation services.
INDIANAPOLIS COSMETIC SURGERY PROCEDURES
Breast Surgery Procedures
Breast Augmentation: The breast enlargement surgery at our Indianapolis practice begins with an incision, made either in the crease underneath the breast, the armpit, or the perimeter of the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple). The placement of the incision will vary according to your goals and body type and the specifics of the procedure. A pocket is created either underneath the breast tissue or underneath the chest wall muscle. The breast implants are then placed in this pocket.
Breast Lift or Mastopexy: Over time, the natural aging process can cause a woman's breasts to sag and lose their shape and firmness. These changes can also result from pregnancy, breast-feeding, weight fluctuations, and heredity. A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that reshapes and lifts a woman's breasts. After the breast lift procedure at our Indianapolis practice, women can expect firmer, shapelier and more youthful looking breasts.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, lifts and reshapes the breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. Sometimes the areola (the pigmented skin around the nipple) becomes enlarged over time and may be reduced to keep it in proportion with the rest of the body.
A breast lift may be appropriate for a female breast that: Has lost firmness and skin elasticity, Sags or is pendulous, Has a flat, elongated shape, Has stretched skin and an enlarged areola, Has a nipple that falls below the breast crease, Has a nipple and areola that point downward
Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation: In the most common breast lift augmentation surgery at our Indianapolis practice, the surgeon makes an incision along the natural contour of the breast. Working through this incision, the surgeon sculpts the skin and tissue and repositions the nipple to give the breast a new and youthful appearance. Breast implants are added to enhance the size of the breasts. Breast lift with implants is usually done on an outpatient basis. Cessation of all nicotine products is strongly urged three weeks pre and post operatively. Smoking before or following breast lift and augmentation surgery increases the visibility of scarring and causes problems with healing.
Breast Reduction: Breast reduction is performed in a hospital or surgery center as an outpatient or with an overnight stay. The most common procedure involves the surgeon removing excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin and adjusts the nipple to its new position. Not only is the breast reduced in size, but it is lifted and reshaped as well. Cessation of all nicotine products is strongly urged three weeks pre and post operatively. Smoking before or following surgery increases the visibility of scarring and causes problems with healing. The procedure itself takes approximately two hours and is done under a general anesthetic.
Breast Reconstruction: For many women diagnosed with breast cancer, mastectomy, or breast removal, is often required. Women who have undergone this surgery can choose to have breast reconstruction. This surgery recreates the size and shape of the patient's natural breast and can renew a woman's sense of beauty and femininity. Immediate breast reconstruction can be performed at the time of the mastectomy. Delayed reconstruction can be performed months or even years after the mastectomy.
Many techniques are available for breast reconstruction. The determination of the procedure used is based upon many factors. During a consultation, your plastic surgeon will help you determine the best technique for your situation.
Nipple/Areola Surgery: Nipple reconstruction surgery can be desired for one of several reasons. These include: To reconstruct the nipple after breast reconstruction, For those who feel their nipples are misshapen, For those who feel their nipples are too large or small
Treatment of Tuberous Breasts and Asymmetrical Breasts: Many women have tuberous or asymmetrical breasts, but some are more tuberous or asymmetric than others. Some women are embarrassed by or self conscious about this problem, however we have found that we can help a great deal.
If you want to match the smaller breast to the larger breast, we put an implant in the smaller breast. If you want the larger breast enlarged as well, we handle that by either using different size implants or filling one with more saline than the other. If you want to match the larger breast to the smaller breast, we do a reduction on the larger breast.
