Training / Credentials
Dr. David Michelson's mission in life is to help people look, feel, and to live their very best; he is passionate about facilitating the achievement of maximum potentials in both health and beauty. This lifework is realized because of his training as a rigorous scientist, and his talents as an artist extraordinaire.
The doctor's approach to cosmetic surgery is guided by the principle of "less is more"; promoting minimally invasive procedures that get aesthetically superior results (with the least risk to his patients). Visually pleasing. Natural-looking. Your body can evoke these phrases–they're founded upon the experience of hundreds of breast augmentations, breast lifts, and breast reductions that Dr. Michelson has successfully performed. He also enjoys an excellent reputation in facial plastics; an improved, more youthful appearance can be enjoyed through a facelift, necklift, eyelid surgery, and alloplastic facial implants. Of course, Dr. Michelson encourages minimal-incision facelifts and browlifts, which are part of his repertoire.
His continuing education in advanced health treatments and his persistence in perfecting surgical techniques have taken him all around the world. At international meetings and in prestigious medical journals, he shares his own findings in presentations that reflect his dedication to the advancement of both the art and science of his chosen field.
Dr. David Michelson is a plastic surgeon in Thousand Oaks and in Oxnard who offers all aspects of cosmetic and plastic surgery including less evasive procedures.

Breast Enlargement, or augmentation mammoplasty, enhances the body contour of a woman who is unhappy with her breast size. It may also be used to correct volume loss after pregnancy, to help balance breast size asymmetries, or as a reconstructive technique following other breast surgery. The breast implant (prosthesis) is usually composed of an outer silicone shell filled with saline (salt water). The outer surface may be smooth or textured, and breast implants in Thousand Oaks come in various shapes to meet the individual woman’s needs. The operation is carried out under general anesthesia and usually on an outpatient basis. The incision can be made under the breast, around the nipple or in the armpit. The implant may then be placed under the breast tissue and glands or partially under the pectoralis major muscle (the thickness of the breast tissue and its ability to adequately cover the implant is a determining factor in its placement). It generally takes one to two hours to complete the entire procedure.
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, restores a more youthful appearance, raising and reshaping the breasts. Breasts can lose their form and firmness due to pregnancy, nursing, loss of skin elasticity, aging, and gravity. Pregnancy and nursing often result in stretched skin and therefore decreased volume. If you are planning a future pregnancy, it is advisable to postpone your breast lift, as additional pregnancies will likely cause further stretching.
The tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is an operation that is designed to remove excess skin from the abdomen and tighten the abdominal muscles. It is indicated in cases where abnormal stretching of lax abdominal muscles and skin has resulted in excessive bulging. Unlike liposuction surgery, which just removes fat, this operation involves removal of skin and fat, with tightening of the abdominal muscles. For this reason, it is more extensive than liposuction. The actual extent of surgery will depend on the amount of excess skin and the degree of abdominal muscle laxness.
Liposuction is a very common, popular procedure, designed for the permanent removal of subcutaneous fatty tissue from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. These areas include the hips, thighs (for the removal of "cellulite"), abdomen, knees, ankles, arms, face, and neck.
Buttock Augmentation surgery is an increasingly popular procedure that changes a flat and poorly developed buttock to a more enhanced feature on the body.
In his quest to help all his patients look and feel their very best, Dr. Michelson has acquired the knowledge and expertise for his diverse repertoire of cosmetic surgeries and treatments. Yet, his medical skills are only part of the solution. You, the patient, will ultimately determine the outcome of your treatment, for proper body weight management is integrally linked to all procedures--enhancing their results, and extending their benefits over the passage of time.
Endermologie® is a one-of-a-kind technique to treat cellulite, administered with specialized non-invasive instruments by an LPG 1 Certified Technician. The technician maneuvers a hand-held extension of the LPG therapeutic massager that combines gentle suction and activated rollers to lift and stimulate cellulite-impaired tissues (see diagram below). Through a series of individualized treatment sessions, Endermologie® effects remarkable improvements in patient skin tone, body contours, and cellulite appearance. Recognizing its efficacy, Dr. Michelson provides this therapy in the comfortable setting of his Cosmetic, Aesthetic, and Anti-Aging Center. There, patients who have experienced Endermologie® liken the session to an incredible invigorating massage–but it is so much more.
Sclerotherapy can noticeably improve the appearance of some vascular lesions like "spider veins" and some varicose veins. Afflicting mainly women, "spider veins" (telangiectasias) are tiny red or purple vessels, close to the skin's surface, that commonly appear on the legs. Varicose veins are larger (usually more than one-fourth inch in diameter), distended, a darker color, and are more likely to cause pain. For the treatment of both types, a painless sclerosing solution is injected into the problem veins. The sclerosing (meaning "causing thickening") solution acts as an irritant that causes a localized thickening of blood factors, which eventually results in the vessels being filled in with nonvascular tissue. In effect, the treated vessels are absorbed by the body; this is manifested by the veins first turning a lighter color, and finally by disappearing. Notably, with the absorption of the target vessels, the pain (aching and cramping) associated with them is also often remedied. In most cases, about fifty to seventy per cent of the treated vessels will respond favorably.
ZERONA™ The first non-invasive body contouring procedure to effectively remove excess fat.
Face lift in Thousand Oaks, or a rhytidectomy, is designed to restore a more youthful appearance by removing major wrinkles and sagging skin. Children and young adults have smooth, round faces due to evenly distributed fatty tissues in facial contours. As a result of aging, sun exposure and genetics, the facial skin may sag and wrinkle, and folds of the chin, jaw line and neck may become prominent. Facelift surgery helps to temporarily reverse this process by tightening the facial and neck muscles and removing any excess skin. A facelift is frequently performed in conjunction with blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), a forehead lift, and chin augmentation (and/or liposuction) to create an overall rejuvenation of the face. A single session often achieves the desired results.
As the aging process begins, the connective tissue thins and collagen and elastic fibers break down. These changes in the support structures appear as sagging skin, deep creases, folds, and wrinkles.
BOTOX® Cosmetic, a trade name for Botulinum Toxin Type A, is a prescription medication that is physician-administered by injection. When properly placed in the facial muscles, it is possible to achieve three-dimensional changes in the appearance of the face. BOTOX® Cosmetic is used to eliminate worry lines in the forehead, frown lines, crow's-feet, drooping corners of the mouth, lip lines, and other unwanted wrinkles caused by hyperfunctional facial muscles. BOTOX® Cosmetic can return symmetry to the face, elevate a brow, and open the eye apertures to present a pleasing "doe-eyed" expression. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles, reducing their activity that causes those persistent lines to form. By precisely medicating the proper muscles, Dr. Michelson can eliminate the wrinkles without suspending normal facial muscle function.
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, corrects sagging or drooping eyelids, as well as bags and bulges around the eyes. These conditions develop as a result of laxness of the eyelid skin and accumulation of fat around the eyes. It is not limited to older patients, as many individuals inherit a predisposition toward development of fat pouches at an early age. Thus, surgical correction is appropriate for all age groups.
Endoscopy is a surgical technique that involves the use of an endoscope, a special viewing instrument that allows a surgeon to see images of the body's internal structures through very small incisions.
Cheek implants (malar augmentation) and chin implants (mentoplasty) modify the underlying structure of the face to produce a pleasing combination of facial elements. Using components of classic beauty, in this case prominent cheekbones and a strong chin projection, Dr. Michelson creates a countenance of balance and distinction.
Acne is an abnormal condition of cutaneous follicles with sebaceous glands (small skin cavities with glands that produce fatty secretions). When a follicle increases in size and sebum production, and its opening becomes blocked (with keratinized sebum and dead skin cells), acne bacteria can multiply, and a pimple can result.
A laser hair removal treatment utilizes a low-intensity laser light of a wavelength that is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft and bulb, producing heat. This heat spreads to the outer perimeter of the hair follicle "bulge", causing thermal damage to the cells that regulate hair growth. The result is a cessation of hair growth.
Radiesse® dermal filler is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, and is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure. RADIESSE dermal filler is the ideal choice for total facial contouring. It can restore a healthy, youthful appearance, enhance your existing features, help you defy age and gravity, and increase your confidence – all without invasive surgery or scarring.
Skin rejuvenation and resurfacing can be achieved in a number of ways, ranging from laser, light and other energy-based treatments to chemical peels and other non-ablative methods.
Skin rejuvenation is a treatment to resurface your skin, or to improve the texture, clarity and overall appearance of your skin.
