There are several types of chemical peels, including phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and alphahydroxy acid (AHAs). Chemical peel is a less involved, outpatient procedure that can improve skin's texture and appearance. If you are interested primarily in these types of results, you may be happier with a facelift. If you mainly desire better skin texture, then a chemical peel alone may suffice. Since it received FDA approval for cosmetic use in April of 2002, BOTOX® has become overwhelmingly popular as a treatment for wrinkles. BOTOX® injections, or botulinium toxin, works by relaxing the muscles surrounding a wrinkle. As a result, the skin softens and the wrinkle fades or disappears. BOTOX® injections can be used to treat forehead wrinkles as well as lines that form around the eyes. Part of BOTOX® appeal is the ease of treatment associated with it. Patients receive a few small injections around their wrinkles and go home shortly thereafter. Most resume normal activities right away. Wrinkles should begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after treatment.
