PROCEDURES

BREAST PROCEDURES

• Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement or breast enhancement, is a surgical procedure employed at Dr. Antonetti's cosmetic surgery practice in Dallas used to enhance the size of the breasts. Women may choose breast augmentation for a number of reasons pertaining to their appearance or self-esteem. They may want to increase their breast size in order to create curves or a more attractive silhouette. They may wish to balance the appearance of differently sized breasts. Or they may hope to restore size to breasts that have lost volume after pregnancy, breast-feeding, or weight loss. Whatever the reason, breast augmentation is a popular and generally safe option for women of various ages. Breast augmentation is a delicate procedure requiring skill and experience. Electing to have your breast augmentation performed at Dr. Antonetti's Dallas practice is a good decision. Dr. Antonetti has the experience and aesthetic know how to help you achieve the best results for your individual case. There are several options available when it comes to breast augmentation surgical technique. Dr. Antonetti can help you choose the one that is best for you based on your physiology and goals. In most cases at our Dallas practice, incisions for breast augmentation can be subtly placed around the areola (the dark area around the nipple) and in the crease of the breast.

• Breast Lift

Breast lift, or mastopexy, can help give a woman's breasts a more youthful, attractive appearance. Aging can cause the breasts to droop and flatten, making them look "deflated." Women who seek breast lift enhancement through Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Antonetti often report feeling self-conscious about the shape and lack of volume their breasts have. Breast lift enhancement gives these women better breast shape and an increased level of satisfaction with their appearance. Breast lift enhancement is often combined with the placement of implants (breast augmentation) at our Dallas practice. Implants add volume and shape, making breasts larger and firmer. Whether or not implants are used, the goal of breast lift enhancement is to bring the breasts to a more youthful, natural-looking position.

• Breast Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction can help women who have had to undergo a mastectomy (breast removal). Being able to have a natural-looking replacement breast can help these women feel less self-conscious after mastectomy. This procedure can provide a measure of comfort to those who have suffered from breast cancer and so proves to be especially meaningful for both surgeon and patient. More than one breast reconstruction technique exists. Surgery can be performed using a saline breast implant or using the patients own tissue. Reconstruction can be done either at the same time as the mastectomy or later on. The timing and technique are determined on a case-by-case basis by Dr. Antonetti and your oncologist.

• Breast Reduction

Large breasts often pose a number of complications that can be difficult to live with. Women with large breasts often suffer from back, neck, and shoulder pain. For some women, these conditions become even more painful with prolonged periods of sitting or standing. In addition, women with large breasts may experience skin irritation beneath the breasts or on the shoulders where the bra straps cut in. Breast reduction, performed by Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Antonetti, can help to reduce or eliminate these medical side effects of large breasts. Breast reduction can offer women other benefits as well. For those whose physical activity is limited because of breast size, surgery can bring new opportunities to be active and participate in sports. In addition, women may find that they are able to wear a wider variety of clothing styles. Many breast reduction patients of our Dallas practice find that they are happier with their appearance and feel more self-confident after surgery.Breast reduction surgery at our Dallas facility generally involves the removal of breast tissue, fat, and excess skin. The nipple and areola are usually moved higher and may be reduced in size if necessary.

OTHER PROCEDURES

• Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, is a procedure that is used to tighten and smooth the abdominal region. Excess fat is removed, the muscles of the abdomen tightened, and the overlying skin pulled taut. This process can be performed from the pubic area up to the navel in what is called a partial abdominoplasty, or mini tummy tuck. In the more extensive version called a full abdominoplasty, the area as far up as the bottom of the rib cage can be treated. Abdominoplasty is designed for the person who is in good health, but has persistent loose skin around the tummy. This often occurs in women after pregnancy or in those who have undergone dramatic weight loss. The following are examples of the kind of conditions that a tummy tuck can treat:
- Loose skin around the abdomen
- A protruding abdomen
- Weak or separated abdominal muscles
- Excess fat in the abdominal region

• Liposuction

Some areas of the body seem immune to the effects of exercise and retain fat even with a healthy diet. Such areas are often a source of frustration and self-consciousness for people who are otherwise of normal weight. Fortunately, for those in the Dallas area, liposuction, performed by plastic surgeon Dr. Antonetti, can be used to eliminate fatty deposits on many areas of the body.

• Chin Augmentation (genioplasty)

A weak chin can detract from an otherwise attractive profile. Fortunately, chin augmentation can increase the size of the chin, creating a stronger jaw line and balancing other facial features. In some cases, a weak chin can place too much emphasis on the nose; chin augmentation can make the nose look smaller and can improve the proportions between the nose and chin. Chin augmentation can be customized in terms of size and shape depending on your specific needs.

• Ear Surgery (otoplasty)

Large or protruding ears can be a cause of self-consciousness, especially for children and teens. Ear surgery, or otoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can reduce the size of the ears or pin them closer to the head. Ear surgery can make a dramatic improvement in a person's appearance, easing social tensions and boosting self-esteem. Ear surgery is most often performed on children over age 5. Younger children should postpone having otoplasty until their ears have finished growing. Teenagers and adults can have ear surgery as well.

• Facelift

Aging can cause your facial skin to wrinkle and droop, making you look sad or angry even when you are not. This is unfortunate, because your face communicates so much about you to others and its appearance can influence how you feel about yourself. If you are bothered by lines, sagging skin around your jaw line, droopy cheeks, or deep creases that extend from your nose to your mouth, you may be a good candidate for facelift. Facelift, or rhytidectomy, can help you turn back the clock. Facelift surgery involves removing excess skin, tightening underlying muscle and tissue, and removing fatty deposits in the face and neck. The facial skin is then smoothed and pulled more tightly as the incisions are stitched. Most facelift scars can be hidden within your hairline. Facelift is often combined with other procedures to give you the best possible results. For example, facelift might be combined with nose reshaping, eyelid surgery, a forehead lift, or skin treatments. The best way to determine which procedures are right for you is to talk to Dr. Antonetti about your specific case.

• Chemical Peel

Chemical peels are used to refresh the appearance of the face, making skin look smoother, healthier, and younger. They work by removing the outer layers of skin and revealing the new skin below. Chemical peels can reduce wrinkles, acne scars and blemishes, and areas of uneven pigmentation. There are several types of chemical peels, including phenol, trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and alphahydroxy acid (AHAs). Which peel you choose depends upon how deep a peel you need and how sensitive your skin is. Dr. Antonetti can help you determine which chemical peel is right for you and your skin. It may be important to note that a chemical peel can be used in conjunction with a facelift but should not be used in place of one. Chemical peel is a less involved, outpatient procedure that can improve skin's texture and appearance. It cannot erase lines created by deeper folds of skin or provide the sort of tightening afforded by a facelift. If you are interested primarily in these types of results, you may be happier with a facelift. If you mainly desire better skin texture, then a chemical peel alone may suffice. Combining the procedures gives the benefits of each.

• Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

The eyes have been noted for their ability to reveal people's thoughts and emotions. Unfortunately, under eye circles, puffiness, and bags around the eyes can portray negative emotions, such as anger, sadness, exhaustion, or frustration, even when you are feeling fine. Eyelid surgery can correct these problems, leaving you with brighter, more expressive eyes. Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, can improve the appearance of the area surrounding the eyes. Both the upper and lower lids can be tightened and smoothed. The result? A more rested, youthful appearance. Although the most common eyelid surgery patient chooses the surgery to minimize the effects of aging, the procedure can be performed on younger people as well. You might choose to have eyelid surgery done while you are still in your 20s if genetics have left you with excess skin or puffiness that makes you look fatigued.

• Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, or a nose job performed at our Dallas practice, is surgery to reshape the nose. Many people who visit our Dallas office opt to have rhinoplasty because they feel that the size or shape of their nose is not in balance with the rest of their facial features. Rhinoplasty may also be used to treat breathing problems in people with deviated septum or related conditions. Most commonly, however, patients choose rhinoplasty to enhance their appearance and boost their self-confidence.Rhinoplasty is used by Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Antonetti to increase or decrease the size of a person's nose. It can also alter the shape of the bridge, tip, or nostrils. Most incisions can be hidden within the nose, leaving you with minimal scarring. While rhinoplasty cannot change your whole life, it may give a significant boost to your image and self-esteem. Our Dallas team feels that it is important for you to understand how the rhinoplasty procedure works and what realistic expectations are for you. • BOTOX®

Since it received FDA approval for cosmetic use in April of 2002, BOTOX® has become overwhelmingly popular as a treatment for wrinkles. BOTOX® injections, or botulinium toxin, works by relaxing the muscles surrounding a wrinkle. As a result, the skin softens and the wrinkle fades or disappears. BOTOX® injections can be used to treat forehead wrinkles as well as lines that form around the eyes. Part of BOTOX® appeal is the ease of treatment associated with it. Patients receive a few small injections around their wrinkles and go home shortly thereafter. Most resume normal activities right away. Wrinkles should begin to fade as soon as 24 hours after treatment.
